Steady Hearts is an eight session in person course for parents of children and teenagers navigating anxiety and depression. Grounded in Scripture, informed by neuroscience, and written from lived experience.
Anxiety and depression in children and teenagers can leave even the most devoted parents feeling helpless. It is not a reflection of your love or your faith. It is a sign that you need better tools and a safe community to walk this with you.
Steady Hearts was built to give you exactly that. Not a quick fix. Not a list of rules. A real, grounded understanding of what is happening in your child and how you can be a steady presence in the middle of it.
You do not have to figure this out alone.
Steady Hearts brings together four foundations that most courses address separately. Because your child is not just a brain, or just a behaviour, or just a spiritual question. They are all of it at once, and so are you.
Presented in person at churches across South Africa, each session builds on the last to give parents a complete picture and a practical path forward.
What does God say about suffering, the mind, and the heart? Grounded in Scripture throughout.
Understanding what is actually happening in your child’s brain, explained clearly and accessibly.
How the parent relationship shapes your child’s capacity to heal and feel safe.
Written and presented with the warmth and honesty of someone who has walked this road herself.
Your child’s struggle is real, and so is your pain. You are not walking this road alone.
Learn what anxiety and depression actually are, so you can stop guessing and start understanding what your child faces.
Parenting a struggling child is exhausting. This session gives language to what you are feeling and permission to be human.
Discover what is happening neurologically in your child, and why their responses are not defiance but distress.
Explore how thoughts shape feelings and drive behaviour, and how small shifts in thinking can open new doors.
Your relationship with your child is the most powerful tool you have. Learn how to strengthen it when it matters most.
Explore how a secure relationship with God can become an anchor for both you and your child in the storm.
Leave equipped with practical strategies, clarity on when to seek help, and the courage to keep going.
Steady Hearts is presented by Petro Stroud, a former youth & children’s pastor with nearly twenty years experience in full time ministry, in collaboration with Dr Hanlie Meyer, a counselling psychologist practising in Pretoria.
The course brings together pastoral warmth and clinical insight, because parents need both. It is written from lived experience, tested in real communities, and grounded in the conviction that the gospel speaks into every part of family life.
Steady Hearts is not an online course. It is an in person experience, hosted by your church or school, where parents can sit together, ask real questions, and do the work in community.
A church or school leader reaches out to express interest in hosting Steady Hearts for their community.
We work out dates, venue, and format that fits your context. The course is flexible enough to suit most church settings.
Eight sessions of honest, grounded, gospel centred content for parents who are ready to show up for their children.
Whether you are a parent wanting to know more, or a pastor or church leader interested in bringing Steady Hearts to your congregation, we would love to hear from you.
